This fine quartet set is co-led by pianist Karen Hammack and drummer Paul Kreibich. Tenor saxophonist John Gross and bassist Putter Smith complete the Los Angeles-based group, which performs straight-ahead originals (all from the co-leaders except Eric Von Essen's "Another Moon"). The solos are concise, the band displays its own sound, and Gross and Hammack take many well-conceived solos. Well worth checking out.
